nicklas bendtner: danish footballer of the year

I have problems!

Maybe with me, mostly with Hertha Berlin. See, I posted before about the disturbing trend of teams I like sucking a lot. What I didn't expect was that, um, Hertha Berlin would, um, CONTINUE TO SUCK.

As you can see, Hertha Berlin is at the bottom of the table. The very, VERY bottom. It's ridiculous how bad they suck. See?

See? Goal difference is -19. -19!!! It's ridiculous. Not only that, but they only have four points from one win an done draw. ONE WIN AND ONE DRAW! I don't even know. They've played 12 games this season and they are terrible. The worst part is that it's not like they're not trying. In their 1-0 loss to FC Köln, Hertha Berlin had more chances. Seriously. It's ridiculous how many chances they had. I don't even know how to explain this. 17 shots to Köln's two. TWO. And one of those two was the goal. Ridiculous. The worst part is that I kind of love the team anyway. Even when if they go down, I'll have to find a way of supporting them. Which is horrible, because I live in the US and they play in Germany and I've only seen them play live once and it wasn't even a full match. AND YET. I can't help it. I am doomed, what can I say?

Someday I'll be able to afford another USMNT jersey. That one'll say Torres on the back.

Just what I needed this morning. Thanks, Amanda.

What? He's cute. I got nothing for you. Especially since the u20s suck.

woe on the team(s) i support

Raphael Honigstein asks (and answers) the question of what's gone wrong for Hertha Berlin. Sure, you can read the article to find out more. But he's missing the most important (and irrelevant) part.

The main reason is that I just started following Hertha. I have several good friends living in Germany, and one of them happens to live in Berlin. We send packages of stuff (tea, mugs, magazines, etc, stuff we want, but can't get in our respective countries) back and forth. She was trying to get me Gladbach stuff (because that's where Michael Bradley plays and it was her favorite team growing up), but she couldn't find much, so instead she hooked me up with Hertha Berlin stuff. See where this is heading?

I was like, hey, I need a team to support in Germany (not based solely on people playing for them) and why not Hertha? So I did and, um, now they suck. This is totally a trend for me. I mean, what do you expect from the Ohio State/Cleveland teams fan living in Michigan?

Sorry, Hertha. You're not going to get rid of me that easily. On second thought, perhaps it's best that I ended up with Hertha.

Bochum supporters, hardened by a life of constant downs and few ups, are entitled to see things differently. Before the game, the club hung up posters that read: "Others have trophies – we have you." This proclamation was met with a frosty response. "Others have trophies – we only have you," read a sarcastic banner on Saturday.
Doesn't that sound like fans of Cleveland teams? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Here's to my life of supporting depressing teams and constant questioning of why I'm a sports fan. Please accept that the fact that I'm also a (not-so-secret) Barcelona supporter and the fact that I got into football fandom AFTER Arsenal's Invincibles (I know the history now, but I didn't then and they haven't won anything since I've been a fan.) as something completely bizarre and random. After all, the only reason I started watching Milan was because I hated Liverpool. I don't really support any other teams, I just watch for certain players (Joe Hart, several Americans, Markus Rosenberg ...), but once I find a team, I live and die by them.

And, in case you were wondering, if I had to pick just one, it'd be Arsenal.

Arsenal

Ignore that previous post, wrong picture and Flickr decided it wanted to screw up my formatting. Anyway, here's a better picture of Jack. And of course, we hope that the future is bright for Arsenal and that the kids do come good. Sooner rather than later, though.

Arsenal

For the first time this off season I finally got to see Arsenal play. It was the final of the Emirates Cup and I must admit it was really fun to watch. I am not sure how much of the squad will start during the regular season, but what I saw was impressive. I don't remember much of last year's preseason friendlies, and like most preseasons, it doesn't necessarily mean anything about the regular season. I wish it did, because the team was quite good. Granted, they were playing Rangers who was definitely in preseason form. Hopefully the team'll keep it up throughout the whole season.

I am not overly excited, nor am I hopeful that we will finish at anywhere other than fourth or fifth. But that being said, you never know and I definitely hold out hope that this season will be awesome.

DCU and Barcelona

Well, seven goals and DC lost. Our defense was, well, missing? I don't even know. I feel like we were out played, but I wasn't paying that close attention because I was helping a friend with her paper. But, man. We went down 3-0 in four minutes in the first half and were almost down 5-2 (or 1, I can't remember) at one point. I don't even know what the team was thinking. By the second half of the, er, second half, they seemed to finally show up. But, god. That was almost more than just a little embarrassing.

Next up for me, if I can stay awake, is Barcelona/LA Galaxy. There's no contest, obviously I want Barça to win, if only to embarrass Beckham, but also because I like them.
